A guided demo is an interactive walkthrough where the viewer has to click the highlighted control to advance, rather than pressing a Next button.
The distinction sounds small and changes how the demo is received, because the viewer has to read the screen to find the control.
Attention. Finding the control means reading the screen, so the viewer actually sees what you meant them to see rather than clicking Next while thinking about something else.
It costs speed, and it costs you some viewers. An evaluator comparing three vendors does not want to hunt for a button, and on a phone the target may be small and the viewer one-handed.
Onboarding, training, partner enablement and internal documentation — anywhere the viewer has already decided to use the product and the goal is building a habit rather than making a case.
For landing pages, cold outreach and social, free advancement converts better, because those viewers have not decided you are worth effort yet.
The drop-off chart answers it directly. If a guided demo loses a large share at the first step requiring a click, the guidance is the problem rather than the content.
Both modes are a setting rather than a plan, so this is something to test rather than agonise over.
