Screenshots for Support Tickets: How to Send One That Gets Answered Faster

September 15, 2026

Ask anyone who works a support queue what they wish customers sent and the answer is a screenshot -- of the right thing, with the error visible, and the private bits hidden. Ask what they usually get and it is a photo of a monitor, a screenshot of the wrong tab, or a description of a screenshot.

The same is true in reverse: when support sends the customer a screenshot showing where to click, the quality of that image decides whether the ticket closes or reopens.

What a useful ticket screenshot contains

  • The error or the wrong state -- the actual message text, not a paraphrase.
  • Enough context to locate it -- the page title or the section header, so nobody has to ask "where was this".
  • The address bar, if the URL matters -- and only then, since it is otherwise a line of private-looking text.
  • Nothing else -- other tabs, other windows, the taskbar, a chat notification.

What to blur before sending

Names and emails of other people, account numbers, anything financial, and your own bookmarks bar. Blur destructively -- pixelate or box -- because a support ticket is often visible to more people than the one agent, and sometimes forwarded to a vendor.

A one-minute capture

Press Screenshot in the Demorta bar, drag around the error and its context, and in the editor: Blur over anything private, Box around the message, one text label if the box needs explaining. Download the PNG and attach it. The whole thing is faster than describing the error would have been. Try the free screenshot tool.

From the support side

When the answer is "click here, then here, then here", one annotated screenshot per step works but a short recorded walkthrough works better -- the customer clicks through the exact screens and there is nothing to misread. That is the point at which the screenshot tool and the demo tool are the same extension: record the answer once and paste the link into every ticket that asks the same thing.

Frequently asked questions

What should a screenshot for a support ticket include?
The actual error text, enough of the page to locate it, and nothing private. Crop away other tabs and windows; blur other people’s names, account numbers and amounts before attaching it.
How do I annotate a screenshot for a support request?
One box around the problem and, if needed, one short label. Use a tool with a real blur for the private parts -- Demorta’s screenshot tool does capture, blur, box and label in the browser and downloads a clean PNG.
Is a screenshot or a screen recording better for support?
A screenshot for a single state or error. A recording -- ideally a clickable walkthrough rather than a video -- for anything that is a sequence of steps, in either direction.
