The Snipping Tool is quick but its editor is thin, and most screenshot extensions stamp their name on anything you download for free. This does the drag-to-capture inside the tab, opens the capture in an editor immediately, and gives you a plain PNG.
It lives in the Demorta recorder bar, which is the Chrome extension we make for recording interactive product demos. You do not have to record anything to use it -- press Screenshot, or Ctrl+Shift+8, on any page.

It captures web pages only, because it is a Chrome extension: for a desktop app, a dialog or a video call, use the operating system shortcut. It does not take scrolling full-page captures -- a dedicated capture extension is better for those. And it needs a free account, which is the trade for no watermark and no upload.
Because the same people need both. Someone who records a walkthrough of their product on Monday sends a screenshot of one screen on Tuesday, and the recorder already has the capture, the blur and the editor built for its own steps. Exposing them as a screenshot button was a small change that makes the extension useful before anyone records a single demo.

Yes. It needs a free Demorta account and nothing else -- no card, no trial period, no watermark on the download, and no limit on how many screenshots you take.
No. The download is a plain PNG of what you edited. Free screenshot tools often watermark to advertise themselves; this one is free because it is part of a product you may or may not later use.
No. The capture is taken by the extension, edited in your browser tab, and downloaded from there. Nothing is sent to a server.
Not with this tool -- it captures what is visible, or the area you drag within it. For full-page scrolling captures use a dedicated capture extension.
Ctrl+Shift+8 starts an area screenshot whenever nothing is being recorded. If the key does nothing, Chrome has not bound it -- the recorder bar shows a button that opens chrome://extensions/shortcuts where you can set it.
