A screenshot demo is an interactive walkthrough built from captured images of a real product, with a click point and a caption on each one.
It sounds like the least impressive option in the category and it is frequently the most reliable.
Text in a screenshot is an image, so it cannot be searched, translated, or read by a screen reader. Your captions have to carry the meaning, which is good practice anyway and becomes a requirement here.
Images also scale less gracefully than markup — a screenshot enlarged past its capture size gets soft, which is why zooming into small detail matters more than people expect.
A structure capture keeps the page as real markup, so text stays text and stays crisp at any size. It is the better choice for dashboards, forms and settings — most business software.
Screenshots win for anything visually unusual, and for demos that must look identical everywhere with no chance of a font or stylesheet loading differently. Demorta includes both modes on every plan including free, so the choice is per recording rather than per subscription.
Record at a narrower browser width than you think, because the result is viewed smaller than it was captured. Zoom into any step whose point is a specific number or control.
And write captions that stand alone: read only the caption text, in order, with the images hidden. If the story still holds, the demo works for someone who cannot see the screens.
