What a Rebrand Does to Your Demos

August 25, 2026

Rebrands are planned around the site, the logo and the announcement. Demos are remembered late, usually when someone notices the old name inside the walkthrough on the new homepage.

Every published demo shows the old identity, and there is no global find-and-replace for a screenshot.

Find them before launch day

  • Every embed on the site, which is the visible half.
  • Links in email sequences, which keep sending long after launch.
  • Directory and marketplace listings, which nobody remembers owning.
  • Anything a partner or customer embedded, which needs a message rather than an edit.

Re-record in order of traffic

The homepage demo and whichever one sits on the pricing page are the two that matter. Those are seen by nearly everyone and are where an old name reads as a company that does not have its house in order.

The rest can follow over a few weeks. A demo seen twice a month showing the old logo is untidy rather than damaging.

A name change is worse than a logo change

A new colour or mark in an old demo is barely noticed. A different product NAME is actively confusing: the visitor is on a page for one product watching a walkthrough of another, and the reasonable conclusion is that they are in the wrong place.

If the name changed, treat the top demos as launch-blocking rather than as follow-up work.

What makes the next one cheaper

Demos that keep working through a rebrand tend to be the ones that were cropped tightly to a workflow rather than showing the whole application with its header. There is less brand in shot to go stale.

That is not a reason to record badly on purpose, but it is worth knowing that a tightly-framed demo has a longer life for reasons beyond legibility.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to product demos in a rebrand?
They all show the old identity at once, and there is no find-and-replace for a screenshot. Find every embed, email link and directory listing before launch, then re-record in order of traffic -- the homepage and pricing demos first.
Is a name change worse than a logo change?
Considerably. A new colour in an old demo is barely noticed; a different product name means the visitor is watching a walkthrough of what looks like another product, and concludes they are in the wrong place. Treat top demos as launch-blocking.
Which demos survive a rebrand best?
Ones cropped tightly to a workflow rather than showing the whole application with its header -- there is simply less brand in shot to go stale. A useful side effect of framing demos tightly for legibility.
