Supademo vs Storylane: How to Choose Between Them

August 27, 2026

Supademo and Storylane are both established interactive demo tools, and both are genuinely capable. Anyone telling you one is simply better is selling something.

The prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on 27 August 2026. Pricing in this category moves often, so check before you decide -- including our own.

What each one costs

The entry tiers are close. The second tier is where they stop resembling each other, and it is where most teams end up, because that is where seats and HTML demos live.

  • Storylane Free -- 1 seat, 1 published demo, lead capture, basic analytics.
  • Storylane Starter -- $50/mo -- 1 seat, +$50 per additional seat, unlimited published demos.
  • Storylane Growth -- $625/mo -- 5 seats, +$125 each. HTML demos start here.
  • Storylane Premium -- $1,500/mo -- 10 seats, Hubs, SSO, whitelabel demo URL.
  • Supademo Free -- 1 creator, 5 guided interactive demos, 50 video recordings.
  • Supademo Scale -- $38/mo per creator ($50 without the discount shown). Branching and variables, tracking links.
  • Supademo Growth -- $350/mo ($450 undiscounted) -- 5 creators, +$50 each. Guided HTML and sandbox demos start here.

The differences those numbers hide

Storylane's free plan allows one published demo, which makes it closer to a trial than a plan if you need a demo per product or per campaign. Supademo's allows five.

The bigger gap is the second tier. Both put HTML demos there, but Storylane's costs $625 a month against Supademo's $350, and an additional seat is $125 against $50. For a team that will grow past five people, that difference compounds faster than any feature between them.

Start with who is making the demos

The most reliable predictor of whether a demo tool works out is not its feature list, it is whether the person who needs a demo can make one without booking someone else's time.

If demos will be made by marketing or sales, weight the capture flow and the editor heavily. If they will be built by engineering as part of the product, the calculation is different and an SDK-based approach becomes more attractive.

Ask both the same five questions

  • What does making a ten-step demo actually involve, end to end, including the editing?
  • What happens when the product changes — re-record, re-edit, or does it update itself?
  • Is embedding available on the plan I would start on?
  • What is the per-seat cost at the team size I will be in six months?
  • What does a published demo look like on a phone? This is where demo tools differ most and where trials rarely take you.

Build the same demo in both

Not an exploratory demo — the actual one you need, of your actual product, with the flow you would really publish. A tool that feels pleasant on a three-step toy is a different experience on a nine-step demo with blurring and captions.

This takes an afternoon and settles the question better than any comparison article, including this one. The two tools are close enough on paper that the tie-break is which editor you can stand to use repeatedly.

Where a third option comes in

Both are priced for teams. If you are one person, or an agency making demos for clients where every seat multiplies, the per-seat model is often the thing that actually decides it rather than any feature.

Demorta exists in that gap: capture-based, no SDK, with a free plan that does not expire and includes embedding. That is a real bias and worth naming rather than hiding — check it against the same five questions above.

Frequently asked questions

Is Supademo or Storylane better?
Neither is simply better; they are close enough on capability that the decision usually comes down to the editing experience and the pricing model at your team size. The reliable way to choose is to build the same real demo in both and see which editor you can stand to use repeatedly.
What should I check before committing to a demo tool?
Whether embedding is on the plan you would start on, what the per-seat cost looks like at your six-month team size, what a published demo looks like on a phone, and how long re-recording takes when your product changes.
Are there cheaper alternatives to Supademo and Storylane?
Yes. Both are priced for teams, so the per-seat model is often what decides it for solo founders and agencies rather than any feature difference. Demorta is one such alternative -- capture-based, no SDK, with a free plan that does not expire and includes embedding.
