Every interactive demo tool advertises hotspots, tooltips, branching, analytics and embedding. The feature grids are nearly identical, which is why comparing them from feature grids is so unsatisfying.
The real differences are structural, and there are only about four of them.
This is the fork everything else follows from. Some tools install a JavaScript SDK into your live application and overlay a tour on the running product. Others capture your product in a browser and replay the capture.
SDK tours stay current automatically and need a developer, a release, and usually a security review. Captured demos need neither, work on a product that is not launched, and go stale unless you re-record.
Ask this before anything else about features. It is the difference between a demo library that is an asset and one that is a slowly rotting liability.
With captured demos the honest answer is "you re-record", and the follow-up question that matters is how long a re-record takes. If it is fifteen minutes, your demos stay accurate. If it is an afternoon, they will not.
A free trial and a free plan are advertised with the same word and behave completely differently. A demo is usually embedded somewhere public, so when a trial ends the thing your website links to is what breaks.
Check specifically whether an already-published demo keeps working, and whether embedding is included or reserved for paid plans. Discovering that after building the demo means paying or starting again.
Compare the plan you will be on in six months, not the entry price. Seat count is where these tools diverge most, and a per-seat price that is fine for one person is a different product at five.
Prices move, so get them from the vendor rather than from an article -- including this one. Any comparison page quoting a competitor's exact price is telling you how much it costs on a day that has already passed.
Click through it — the same kind of demo you can record of your own product.
Record your first interactive demo free.
Five demos on the free plan, forever. No credit card, no trial countdown, no sales call. Install the Chrome extension, click through your product once, and you have a shareable link in about ten minutes.
