Software directories — G2, Capterra, AlternativeTo, SaaSHub, Product Hunt and the long tail beyond them — send traffic that is already comparing options.
They also consume real time, so it is worth being deliberate about which ones and what you put in them.
Most directories allow a link and screenshots rather than an embed. So the realistic pattern is a demo link in the description, and your demo's best steps reused as the listing screenshots — which saves producing two sets of assets.
Send the link to a page you control rather than the raw demo, so the visitor lands somewhere with your pricing and a next step.
Start with the ones your own prospects mention and the ones that rank for your category when you search it — those are the ones sending traffic rather than collecting listings.
Reviews-based directories are slower: they need real customers willing to write, and buying or incentivising reviews is both against their rules and obvious to readers. If you have five happy customers, ask five people. If you have none, this is not the channel yet.
Nobody reads a directory description carefully. They look at the images and decide, which makes the same rules apply as anywhere else: populated data, cropped to what matters, no placeholder names, no round numbers.
A listing with an empty-state screenshot reads as a product nobody uses, in a context where you are being compared side by side with ones that do not.
