Why Prospects Go Quiet After a Demo

August 28, 2026

A demo call that went well and produced silence is one of the most common patterns in B2B sales, and the usual explanation — they were not serious — is usually wrong.

What normally happened is that your demo stopped travelling the moment the call ended.

The person you demoed to is not the decision

In most purchases the person on the call has to convince somebody else: a manager, a finance approver, a security reviewer, a team who will have to use it.

They now have to re-perform your demo from memory, badly, to people who were not there. Silence is often that attempt failing rather than a decision against you.

Send something that survives forwarding

  • A recorded walkthrough of what you showed, so the argument travels intact.
  • Short. Their colleague has less patience than they did.
  • Focused on the thing they reacted to, not the full tour.
  • Openable with no account and no meeting, because the next viewer will not book one.

It also tells you what happened

A follow-up email reports nothing. A demo link reports whether it was opened, how far it got, and whether it was watched more than once — which usually means it was shown to somebody else.

Silence with no views and silence with four views are completely different situations, and only one of them is worth chasing.

Stop asking if they had any thoughts

That message asks the prospect to do work on your behalf, and it arrives when they have nothing to say yet because the internal conversation has not happened.

Send the thing that makes their internal conversation easier instead. It is a better message and it produces a reply more often, because you are the one doing the work.

Frequently asked questions

Why do prospects go quiet after a good demo?
Usually because the person on the call now has to re-perform your demo from memory to a manager, a finance approver or a team who were not there. The silence is often that attempt failing rather than a decision against you.
What should I send after a demo call?
A short recorded walkthrough of what you showed -- focused on the part they reacted to, openable with no account and no meeting -- so the argument survives being forwarded to the people who actually decide.
How do I know if a prospect is still interested?
A follow-up email reports nothing, but a demo link reports whether it was opened, how far it got, and whether it was watched more than once -- which usually means it was shown to somebody else. No views and four views are very different situations.
