Two to three thousand dollars is the budget most small companies land on for a launch demo video: enough to hire someone, not enough to hire a studio. It is a real budget that buys a real video, provided it is spent on the right things. Here is where it goes, what falls off first when it is stretched, and the question to ask before spending it at all.
Prices are typical freelance and small-agency rates for a sixty-to-ninety-second screen-recorded demo with narration. They vary by country and by how much you do yourself.
When $3,000 becomes $2,000 the motion budget goes first, then the voiceover becomes AI, then the revisions go from two to one. What must not go is the script: a plain screen recording with a good script outperforms a heavily animated video with no point.
What is never in this budget: custom illustration, live-action footage, localisation, or a second video for a second audience. Each of those is another budget.
Write the brief -- how to write a video brief for a product demo has a template -- prepare the demo account and data, and record the raw screens yourself. Handing a freelancer clean recordings and a scene list halves their time, and the money goes to the edit where it shows.
Where will the video be seen? A homepage hero and a launch post justify a produced video. A pricing page, a sales follow-up, an onboarding email, a help article and a Product Hunt comment do not: on those, a video is skipped and an interactive demo -- the product, captured, that the visitor clicks through -- is used. An interactive demo takes about ten minutes to record from the same click-through and costs nothing on a free plan.
Many launches do both: the video for the announcement, the interactive demo everywhere a decision is actually being made. If the budget only stretches to one, the interactive demo is the one that keeps working after launch week.
