Sharing Interactive Demos on LinkedIn and Social

August 19, 2026

A demo link on social is competing with an infinite feed, and the demo itself is not what people are deciding on. The preview card is.

That changes what matters: most of the work is in the framing and the thumbnail, not in the demo you spent an afternoon recording.

The preview card is the advert

  • Title and description are what people read before deciding. If they say "Untitled demo", nobody clicks, however good the demo is.
  • The image decides whether the post is even noticed while scrolling.
  • The domain shown affects trust. A custom domain reads as more credible than an unfamiliar tool's subdomain.

Write the post as a claim the demo settles

Posts that work make one specific, slightly surprising claim and offer the demo as proof. "We removed the setup wizard entirely -- here is what onboarding looks like now" gives someone a reason to click.

"Check out our new demo!" gives them nothing. The demo is the evidence, and the post has to make an argument for the evidence to be worth examining.

Expect a distracted, mobile viewer

Social traffic is largely on phones, mid-scroll, with low commitment. That argues for your shortest demo -- four or five steps rather than fifteen -- and for one that makes its point immediately rather than building to it.

If you only have a long demo, either record a short cut for social or accept that most viewers will leave in the first few steps. The drop-off chart will show you which, and it is worth knowing before you conclude the channel does not work.

Do not gate it

An email form on a demo shared to a cold social audience will convert close to nobody. These viewers have no relationship with you and infinite alternatives one swipe away.

Ungate for social. The goal is that they understand what you do; capture comes later, from people who came back.

Track the channel separately

Use a distinct link per channel so you can tell social traffic from your homepage traffic. Their behaviour is completely different, and mixing them makes both sets of numbers unreadable.

Judge social demos on drop-off shape rather than completion rate. A high early drop is normal for cold traffic and does not mean the demo is bad.

Frequently asked questions

Do interactive demos work on LinkedIn?
They can, but the link preview does most of the work -- the title, description and image decide whether anyone clicks. Make the post a specific claim the demo settles, and use your shortest demo, since social traffic is mobile and low-commitment.
Should I gate a demo shared on social media?
No. A cold social audience has no relationship with you and alternatives one swipe away, so an email form converts almost nobody. Ungate for social and capture later from people who return.
How do I measure demo performance from social?
Use a separate link per channel so social traffic is not mixed with your homepage traffic, and judge it on the shape of the drop-off rather than completion rate. A high early drop is normal for cold traffic.
