Interactive Demos for Support Teams

August 28, 2026

Support teams already know exactly which questions repeat — the macro list is the evidence.

A written macro with three screenshots is the most common answer to those, and a walkthrough is usually a better one for the same effort.

Start from the macros, not from the docs

Your top ten macros are a ranked list of what to record, already sorted by frequency, already written by people who know how the answer lands.

Take the top three, record the flow each one describes, and put the link in the macro alongside the text rather than replacing it.

Why a walkthrough answers better

  • Nobody has to translate a written instruction into what is on their screen.
  • It cannot skip a step the way a hurried reply does.
  • It works for the next person, who has the same problem next week.
  • It survives a UI change visibly -- when it looks wrong, someone notices, unlike a stale paragraph.

Deflection is the smaller half

The obvious win is tickets that never get opened because a help article now shows the answer. The larger win is faster resolution on tickets that do.

A reply containing a link that solves it in one round trip avoids the three-message clarification exchange that makes a simple ticket expensive.

Keep them current or delete them

A support walkthrough showing a version of the product that no longer exists creates the ticket it was meant to prevent, plus a customer who now trusts your documentation less.

Review them when the UI changes. If nobody owns that, record fewer and keep those right — a small accurate library beats a large stale one.

Frequently asked questions

How can support teams use interactive demos?
Record the flows behind the top macros -- the list is already ranked by frequency -- and put the link alongside the written answer. It removes the step where a customer has to translate written instructions into what is on their screen.
Do demos actually reduce support tickets?
They deflect some, but the larger effect is faster resolution: a reply with a walkthrough that solves the problem in one round trip avoids the three-message clarification exchange that makes an otherwise simple ticket expensive.
What happens when the product changes?
A support walkthrough showing a version that no longer exists creates the ticket it was meant to prevent and costs you documentation trust. Review after UI changes -- and if nobody owns that, keep a small accurate library rather than a large stale one.
