Interactive Demos for BI and Analytics Software

August 26, 2026

Analytics products are unusually hard to demo, because the thing you want to show is dense by nature and the format punishes density.

A full dashboard at full width is unreadable on a laptop and hopeless on a phone. The fix is not a simpler dashboard; it is a demo that moves.

Zoom, or nobody reads anything

Show the whole dashboard once so the viewer understands the scale, then zoom into one chart per step. Each zoom is a sentence: here is the number, here is why it matters.

This single change does more for an analytics demo than any redesign, because it converts a wall of figures into a sequence of points.

Demo a question being answered

Nobody buys BI to look at charts. They buy it to stop waiting on an analyst.

Structure the demo as a question — why did revenue drop last month — and let each step get closer to the answer. The product becomes the path, not the picture.

Show where the data comes from

  • A connection to a source they recognise, named specifically.
  • How fresh the data is, because "real time" is claimed by everyone.
  • Someone non-technical building something, which is the adoption question.
  • A shared or scheduled report, since distribution is where BI dies quietly.

Use plausible numbers

Analytics buyers read numbers for a living. Round figures, impossible growth curves and identical values across rows are noticed instantly and cost you credibility for the rest of the demo.

Seed the demo account with data that has the texture of real data — uneven, slightly messy, occasionally boring.

Frequently asked questions

How do you demo a dashboard without overwhelming people?
Show the full dashboard once for context, then zoom into one chart per step with a single sentence explaining it. Dense screens are unreadable at embed size, and zooming turns a wall of numbers into a sequence of individual points.
What should a BI demo actually show?
A question being answered, not a feature tour. Buyers are trying to stop waiting on an analyst, so a demo that walks from a business question to its answer demonstrates the value directly.
Does demo data quality matter for analytics products?
More than in most categories. Analytics buyers read numbers professionally and spot round figures, impossible trends and repeated values immediately -- and once one number looks fake the whole demo is read sceptically.
