Using a Demo Around a Podcast Appearance

August 28, 2026

A podcast appearance is forty minutes of the highest-quality attention you will get all month, spent on a medium where nobody can see your product.

Most guests handle this by describing the software, which is hard to follow while driving and forgotten by the next junction.

Say one link, once, and make it sayable

A listener cannot copy a URL. It has to be short enough to remember for the length of a walk, which rules out anything with a path full of words.

Say it once, in the last third, when people who are still listening are the ones who care. Repeating it three times costs you more goodwill than it gains clicks.

The show notes are the real placement

  • First link in the notes, above the sponsor and social links.
  • Labelled as what it is -- "see the tool we talked about" beats a bare product name.
  • Sent to the host in advance, so it is in the notes at publication rather than after.
  • Distinct from your homepage link, so you can tell whether the episode did anything.

Do not try to demo verbally

Walking through an interface out loud is unlistenable, and the host will steer away from it because it is bad radio.

Talk about the problem, the decision, the mistake you made — the things that work in audio — and let the link carry the product. That is also the conversation the host wanted.

Expect a long tail

Podcast traffic arrives slowly and continues for months, unlike a launch post. That makes it a poor channel to judge in the first week and a good one to keep a stable link for.

Do not change or retire the URL you gave on air. Episodes are listened to a year later, and a dead link is worse than never appearing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I promote my product on a podcast?
Say one short, memorable link once in the last third, and put the real placement in the show notes as the first link, labelled as what it is. Listeners cannot copy a URL, so anything with a long path is lost.
Should I describe my product in detail on a podcast?
No -- walking through an interface out loud is unlistenable and the host will steer away from it. Talk about the problem, the decision and the mistakes, which work in audio, and let the link carry the product.
How long does podcast traffic take to arrive?
Months, and it keeps arriving -- episodes are listened to long after publication. Judge it slowly, and never retire the URL you gave on air, since a dead link a year later is worse than not appearing.
