How to Showcase Your App on Social Media

August 27, 2026

Social platforms are built for things you can see in a second. Software is the opposite: valuable in what it does over time, and mostly invisible in a still frame.

That mismatch is why most product posts do nothing, and it is fixable without becoming a video producer.

Lead with the moment, not the product

Nobody scrolling has decided to care about your product. They might care about a specific moment — the thing that used to take an hour happening in four clicks.

Post the moment. Introduce the product afterwards, to the people still reading.

Match the format to the platform

  • A link post works where people expect to leave the feed and click something.
  • A short clip or GIF works where they do not, with the link in the first comment.
  • A demo link in your bio works everywhere and permanently, unlike any single post.
  • A demo in the reply is the highest-value placement there is -- someone has just asked what it does.

Give people something to do

A post that ends in "check it out" competes with everything else in the feed. A post that ends in "click through it yourself, it takes twenty seconds" is a specific, small, finishable request.

Say how long it takes. That one detail raises the number of people who start, because the cost is now known rather than open-ended.

One link, reused everywhere

The same published demo works in a post, a bio, a comment, a DM and a newsletter without being remade for each one.

That is the practical argument for making one properly rather than five hurriedly: it is an asset you keep pointing at, not a post that scrolls away.

Frequently asked questions

How do I show my app on social media?
Lead with a specific moment rather than the product -- the thing that used to take an hour happening in four clicks -- and introduce the product to whoever is still reading. Software is invisible in a still frame, so the post has to carry something visible.
Should I post a video or an interactive demo?
Use both in different places. A short clip or GIF works in feeds where people do not expect to leave, with a link in the first comment; an interactive demo works as the destination, in your bio, and as the reply when somebody asks what the product does.
What should a social post about my product ask people to do?
Something small and finishable, with the cost stated -- "click through it yourself, it takes twenty seconds" rather than "check it out". Naming the time raises the number of people who start, because the commitment stops being open-ended.
