Blur Part of a Screenshot

Pixelate the private bit before you send it. Nothing leaves your browser.

Free, no watermark, nothing uploaded. Needs a free Demorta account.

Blurring is the one screenshot edit that has a failure mode. A soft blur over a short name or a six-digit code can be matched back to the original by anyone with a list of candidates -- it has been done with licence plates, usernames and account numbers. Pixelation with large blocks removes the information instead of smoothing it.

This tool pixelates. Drag over the region, check it, download.

STEP 1
Get the image in

Capture an area of the page with the Demorta extension, or open the editor and paste or drop any image.

STEP 2
Choose Blur

Drag a rectangle over each region to hide. The block size scales with the region so small and large areas both come out coarse.

STEP 3
Check it

Zoom in. If any shape survives, draw a box over it in a solid colour instead.

STEP 4
Download

A clean PNG. The original was never uploaded, so there is no unblurred copy anywhere but your machine.

What to blur

  • People -- names, emails, avatars, initials.
  • Accounts -- IDs, invoice numbers, API keys, tokens, even partial ones.
  • Money -- balances and amounts that are not yours to share.
  • Location -- addresses, and the URL if it carries an ID.

Why not upload it to a blur website

Because the reason you are blurring is that the image contains something private, and the first step of an online blur site is to send that image to its server. A tool that edits locally does not have that problem. This one does everything in the browser tab; the network is not involved.

Blur in a whole demo

If the thing you are blurring is your own product for a walkthrough, the demo editor in Demorta has the same blur on every screenshot step, and a redact tool for HTML captures that removes the text from the page itself. Record once, blur once per screen, and every viewer sees the clean version.

Questions

How do I blur part of a screenshot for free?

Paste or capture the image in Demorta’s screenshot editor, choose Blur, drag over the region, and download. Free with a free account, no watermark.

Is pixelation better than blur for hiding text?

Yes. Blur keeps the arrangement of the pixels and can sometimes be reversed by matching; pixelation with blocks larger than the text discards it.

Is the image uploaded to blur it?

No. The editing happens in your browser and the result is downloaded locally.

Can I blur a photo, not just a screenshot?

Yes. Any PNG, JPG or WebP you paste or drop into the editor can be pixelated the same way.
