Why Nobody Watches Your Product Demo

August 21, 2026

There are two completely different failures here and they need opposite fixes: people are not opening the demo, or people open it and leave immediately.

Your analytics tell you which one you have, and almost nothing else matters until you know.

If almost nobody opens it

  • It is below the fold on a page nobody scrolls. The most common cause by a distance.
  • The link says nothing. "Demo" is not a reason to click. "See a contract signed in 60 seconds" is.
  • It is on the wrong page. A demo belongs where people are deciding, not on an About page.
  • Your traffic is small. Twenty visitors a month means a low view count is arithmetic, not a demo problem. Fix traffic first.

If they open it and leave at step one

Then the demo opened badly. Starting on a login screen, a splash, or a screen that needs explaining are the usual causes, and all three waste the step where the most people are still watching.

Open where something useful is already visible. If your first step needs a sentence of setup, it is the wrong first step.

If they leave partway

Look for a cliff in the drop-off chart — one step where a large share leave at once. That is specific and fixable in a way an overall completion number never is.

The usual culprits: a step that asks for something (an email gate above all), a screen too small to read at viewing size, or a jump in context where the viewer no longer recognises where they are.

The thing to check first

Open your own demo on a phone. A large share of viewers are on one, looking at something you recorded on a big monitor, and an unreadable step reads to them as a broken demo.

It takes two minutes and it is the single most common unnoticed cause of a demo that "did nothing" on a channel.

Frequently asked questions

Why is nobody watching my product demo?
Separate two failures first: nobody opening it, versus people opening it and leaving. Low opens is usually placement — below the fold, on the wrong page, or a link that says "Demo" rather than what the viewer will see. Early exits are a demo problem.
What makes viewers leave a demo immediately?
Opening on a login screen, a splash, or a screen that needs explaining. The first step is where the most people are still watching, so it should open where something useful is already visible.
How do I find the step that loses people?
Look for a cliff in the drop-off chart -- one step where a large share leave at once. Common causes are a step that asks for something, a screen too small to read at viewing size, or a jump in context.
