An interactive product demo is a click-through simulation of a real software product, built from actual screens captured from the product, that a prospect navigates themselves -- clicking, reading tooltips, and moving through a flow at their own pace -- instead of watching someone else operate it in a video, or signing up for a live trial account.
A video demo is a recording a viewer watches passively, start to finish, at the pace the recorder set. An interactive demo hands control to the viewer: they click each step forward themselves, can re-visit a screen that confused them, and experience the product as a sequence of real actions rather than a performance. See Interactive Demo vs. Video Demo for the full comparison.
A live trial gives a prospect a real, working account -- powerful, but it requires signup, setup, and often sample data before there is anything worth looking at. An interactive demo is pre-built: every screen is already populated with realistic data and already shows the product at its best, so there is nothing to configure before a prospect sees value.
A typical interactive demo is built from a handful of parts:
On a SaaS company's homepage or pricing page, embedded directly in the layout; linked from a sales follow-up email instead of a recap the prospect has to remember; or placed in a comparison or alternatives page, letting a visitor evaluate the product before ever talking to a person.
The short version: record a real, deliberate walkthrough of one flow, add context to each step, decide whether to gate it, and publish a link or embed. The full process is in How to Create a Product Demo That Actually Converts. You can build one with a free Demorta account in about ten minutes.
