Turn Your Landing Page Into an Interactive Walkthrough

August 25, 2026

A typical B2B landing page is a headline, three feature blocks, some logos and a signup form. The visitor reads the headline, scrolls, and leaves without ever seeing the product.

You do not need to rebuild the page. You need to replace one section of it — the one doing the least work.

Replace the feature grid, not the hero

The hero is doing a job: it says what this is, for whom. Leave it. The three-column feature grid underneath is where attention dies, because it is a list of nouns a stranger cannot picture.

That is the section to swap for a walkthrough. Same position on the page, same scroll depth, radically different content: instead of "Automated reconciliation", the actual screen where a reconciliation finishes.

What the walkthrough should contain

  • Five to eight steps. More is a manual, fewer is a screenshot.
  • One job, done end to end, not a tour of the navigation.
  • Real-looking data. Test rows named "asdf" undo everything else on the page.
  • Captions that say what it means, not what it is. "The dashboard" is wasted space.
  • A closing step with your signup link, because a finished demo meeting a blank screen is the commonest leak there is.

Where to put it, precisely

Below the hero and above the pricing. A visitor who reaches pricing without having seen the product is guessing at value, which is how a fair price starts to look expensive.

Embed it rather than linking out. A link is a decision; an embed is just the next thing on the page.

The afternoon version

Record the flow with a browser extension, write the captions, embed it, delete the feature grid. That is genuinely an afternoon, and it is the highest-leverage change most early B2B sites can make.

Demorta records this way and is free for five demos, which is more than a landing page needs. The reason to pay later is volume — per-industry versions, per-campaign versions — not this first one.

Frequently asked questions

Should a demo replace the feature list on a landing page?
Usually yes. The hero is doing real work and should stay, but a three-column feature grid is a list of nouns a stranger cannot picture -- and it sits exactly where a walkthrough belongs, below the hero and above the pricing.
How long should a landing page walkthrough be?
Five to eight steps covering one job end to end. More becomes a manual, fewer is a screenshot, and a tour of your navigation is neither -- it shows where things are rather than what the product does.
Embed the demo or link to it?
Embed it. A link is a decision the visitor has to make; an embed is simply the next thing on the page. Keep a link version for emails, where embeds are stripped.
