A published demo is a URL, and anyone holding it can open it. For most demos that is the point — they are marketing, and friction costs you viewers.
Some demos are not marketing, and for those a password is the right amount of protection.
On a homepage, in an ad, in cold outreach, or anywhere the viewer has not yet decided you are worth effort. A password on a marketing demo converts a curious visitor into a closed tab.
The instinct to protect a demo from competitors is also usually a bad trade — they will get past a password, and everyone else will not bother.
It stops someone opening the demo without the word. It does not stop a person you gave it to from forwarding both, and it is not a substitute for redaction — if data should not be public, remove it from the demo rather than putting a door in front of it.
Treat it as a curtain, not a safe. It is right for "not for general circulation" and wrong for "must never be seen".
Password protection is available on every Demorta plan, including free — it is not held back for a paid tier, because the demos most likely to need it are often the earliest ones.
For client work, a simpler pattern than one shared password is a separate demo per client. It also lets you see which client actually opened theirs.
