Interactive Demos for ESG and Sustainability Software

August 28, 2026

Every ESG platform can show an attractive dashboard with a downward-trending line. None of that is evidence, and buyers in this space have seen enough of it to discount it entirely.

What they are evaluating is whether the number would survive an auditor, which is a different demo from the one most vendors record.

Demo the provenance of one number

Pick a single figure on the dashboard and walk backwards from it: which source it came from, what factor was applied, who approved it, and what happens when the underlying data is restated.

That one sequence answers more than a tour of every module, because it is the only thing the buyer cannot get from a spreadsheet.

Show the messy inputs

  • A supplier who submitted nothing, and how the gap is handled.
  • A unit mismatch or a bad upload being caught rather than silently averaged.
  • An estimate flagged as an estimate, which is what an auditor looks for first.
  • A restatement, since last year's number changing is normal and terrifying to a first-time buyer.

Name frameworks precisely or not at all

Reporting standards in this area are numerous, regional and actively changing. A vague claim of framework support invites a question about the specific version the buyer must report against.

Show what the system produces and let your documentation carry the formal mapping. Precision is the credibility, and this is a market where credibility is the product.

Remember who has to do the work

The person compiling the data is usually not the executive who signs the report. They are the one who abandons the tool if data collection is painful, and they are rarely on the demo call.

A step showing how a site manager or supplier actually submits data is worth more to adoption than any board-level chart.

Frequently asked questions

How do you demo ESG or sustainability software?
Take one number on the dashboard and walk backwards from it -- the source, the factor applied, who approved it, and what happens on a restatement. Buyers have seen enough attractive downward-trending charts to discount them; provenance is what they are actually evaluating.
What should an ESG demo show besides reporting?
The messy inputs: a supplier who submitted nothing, a bad upload being caught rather than silently averaged, an estimate flagged as an estimate, and a prior-year restatement. Those are what an auditor looks for and what a first-time buyer fears.
Should an ESG demo claim framework compliance?
Only with precision. Reporting standards are numerous, regional and changing, so a vague claim invites a question about the exact version the buyer must report against. Show what the system produces and leave formal mapping to documentation.
