Narration over a stepped demo is the hybrid between a video and a clickthrough: a person explaining each screen, while the viewer keeps control of the pace.
It is the strongest format available for a flagship demo, and the wrong choice for most of the others.
Skimmability. A viewer who wanted to check one screen now has audio playing at them, and many people watch with sound off, in an office or on a train.
It also ages faster. Re-recording one screen in a silent demo is minutes; re-recording it in a narrated one means matching the voiceover around the edit.
The homepage demo, the flagship walkthrough, the one you send to a prospect who has already had a call. Those earn a voice.
Feature demos, help-centre demos and anything sent cold are better silent — those viewers are scanning, and captions serve them better than audio they will not turn on.
You record narration while recording the demo, so each step knows where it sits in the audio and plays the right portion. Webcam and microphone are separate — you can record a voice without appearing on camera.
Narration is on the Growth plan at $39.99 a month, alongside branching, quiz steps and drop-off analytics. Free and Starter do not include it, so if a voice is the reason you are here, Growth is the plan.
