A branching demo asks the viewer a question and sends them down a different path depending on the answer. A quiz step checks they understood something before continuing.
Both are genuinely useful in a narrow set of cases and actively harmful outside them, which is worth knowing before building one.
Asking a cold visitor to categorise themselves before they know what the product is. They do not yet have the information to answer, and a question at step one is friction with no payoff.
And maintenance: every branch is a path that has to be re-recorded when the UI changes. Two branches is two demos wearing one link, and that is the honest cost.
They are a training and enablement tool far more than a marketing one. Checking that a new sales hire or a partner has actually absorbed a flow is a real job, and a quiz step does it inside the demo rather than in a separate LMS.
In a marketing demo a quiz is usually a tax on the viewer. Somebody evaluating your product does not want to be tested by it.
Branching and quiz steps are the interactivity features on the Growth plan at $39.99 a month, together with narration, lead capture and drop-off analytics.
If your use case is partner enablement or sales onboarding, that plan is aimed squarely at you. If you are putting a demo on a landing page, a single linear demo will almost always outperform a branched one, and the free plan covers that.
