Long cycles change what a demo is for. The problem is not persuading someone once — it is that the person you persuaded has to hold that conviction for months while nothing happens, and re-explain it to people who were never persuaded at all.
One demo cannot do that. A small set can, if each one is built for a different month.
Most of a long cycle is waiting. A demo is one of the few assets that keeps working during it: a link sits in an email thread and gets reopened by people you have never met, months after you sent it.
That is an argument for making them permanent and ungated. A demo behind a form is opened once by one person; an open link is what circulates inside a company you cannot see into.
A six-month cycle outlives a quarterly release. A demo sent in February showing an interface that changed in April makes you look slower than you are, at the moment they are checking whether you are still the right choice.
Re-recording the evaluation demo when the product changes materially is worth the twenty minutes — and telling the buyer you have is a legitimate reason to contact them that is not "checking in".
In a long cycle, view data is one of very few signals between meetings. A demo reopened by three new people at the same company is a deal moving inside an organisation; silence for six weeks on a link that was previously reopened weekly is a deal cooling before anyone says so.
Neither is proof, and both are earlier than anything the CRM will tell you.
