Demos get budgeted as a sales expense, which quietly limits where they are used. The post-sale surface is larger and gets almost none of the attention.
A customer who never adopts the features they are paying for churns at renewal, and the usual cause is that nobody ever showed them.
Most accounts use a fraction of what they bought. Not from dissatisfaction -- the person who was trained left, the team changed, or the capability shipped after onboarding and nobody noticed.
This is the single largest predictor of a renewal problem, and it is visible months in advance in usage data most teams already collect.
CSMs spend a lot of time explaining the same capability to different people at the same account. Each explanation is a scheduled call, a shared screen and thirty minutes.
A short demo of that one workflow, sent as a link, is faster for everyone and reaches the colleagues who were never going to attend the call. It also survives the CSM changing.
Most quarterly reviews are backward-looking: here is what you used, here is your ticket volume. Accurate, and not why anyone renews.
The forward-looking half is where the value is: here are two capabilities you are not using that fit problems you mentioned last quarter -- with a demo of each. That turns a review into a reason to expand.
Training delivered live decays with staff turnover. Six months later the trained person has moved and the new one is guessing.
A small library of demos covering the account's core workflows means new team members onboard themselves, and your CSM is not repeating the same session annually.
The same demos reduce repetitive tickets, since "how do I do X" is answered better by showing than describing.
One caution: deflection is a side effect, not a goal to optimise. A customer forced to watch a demo instead of getting an answer is a customer being managed rather than helped.
