How to Create an Interactive Demo in 10 Minutes

August 19, 2026

Most of the effort in a first demo goes into deciding what to record. The recording itself is genuinely quick, and if you have already decided what to show, ten minutes is realistic.

This is the whole process, with the time each part actually takes.

Before you record: two minutes of thinking

Write one sentence describing what the viewer should understand at the end. "You can see which vehicles lost money last month in two clicks" is a demo. "Our platform helps you manage your fleet" is not.

Then log into a demo account rather than a real one. If you do not have one yet, this is the moment to make it -- everything visible on screen ends up in a public URL, and that includes the customer name in the header you have stopped noticing.

Recording: three minutes

  • Install the browser extension and start a recording on the page where the flow begins.
  • Click through the flow normally. Each click captures a step, so work at a natural pace rather than rushing.
  • Hold a click on anything small to record a zoom into it -- a number, a setting, a row in a table.
  • Stop when the point is made. Five or six steps is a good demo; fifteen is a tour nobody finishes.

Editing: four minutes

Delete any step that does not advance the point. This is the highest-value minute you will spend, and most first demos have two or three steps that can go.

Then write the captions. One line per step, saying what it means rather than what it is: not "the dashboard", but "everything overdue, across every project, in one place". If real data slipped in, blur it now -- in Demorta the pixels are destroyed rather than covered, so nothing recoverable is left in the published file.

Publishing: one minute

Publish, copy the link, and put it wherever people currently get confused -- the page they leave from, your next sales email, your pricing page.

Then leave it alone for a week and look at where viewers stop. That drop-off point is what tells you which step to fix, and it is the reason to use a tool rather than a screenshot carousel.

What it costs to try

Demorta's free plan covers 5 demos with unlimited steps and unlimited viewers, plus basic analytics, and signing up does not ask for a card. That is enough to answer whether demos do anything for your product before you spend money on the question.

If they do, Starter at $15.99 a month lifts the demo cap and removes Demorta branding.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to make an interactive demo?
About ten minutes for a first demo once you know what to show: roughly two minutes deciding, three recording, four editing captions and removing weak steps, and one publishing. Deciding what to record is usually the slowest part, not the recording.
What do I need to record a product demo?
A browser extension, a demo account with invented data rather than a real customer account, and one sentence describing what the viewer should understand at the end. Everything visible on your screen ends up in a public URL, which is why the demo account matters.
Can I make an interactive demo for free?
Yes. Demorta's free plan includes 5 demos with unlimited steps and unlimited viewers, screenshot and HTML capture, editing and blurring, embedding, and basic analytics, with no card required to sign up.
